Trinamool’s Mahua Moitra Jabs BJP: ‘At This Rate, They’ll Soon Want Me’ Amidst Ashok Chavan’s BJP Entry

Former Lok Sabha MP and Trinamool leader Mahua Moitra has raised eyebrows with her commentary on the political landscape, suggesting that the BJP’s trajectory may soon lead them to consider poaching her. Moitra, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha last year amidst allegations of involvement in a cash-for-questions scandal, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express her views.

In her tweet, Moitra remarked on the BJP’s recent actions, particularly its tendency to embrace politicians whom they had previously denounced as corrupt. She quipped, “I mean at this rate they’ll soon want me.” Moitra also questioned the BJP’s motives, referencing the party’s projected stronghold in the 2024 elections, sarcastically adding, “I thought Ram Lalla had taken care of 400 seats in 2024. So why is BJP desperately grabbing at the very same netas they always denounced as ‘corrupt’?”

Moitra’s comments come in the wake of the BJP’s warm welcome to former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, who recently resigned from the Congress. Speculation abounds that Chavan may receive a Rajya Sabha nomination, potentially bolstering the BJP’s alliance with Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP against the INDIA block in the state.

Chavan’s departure from the Congress has raised concerns within the party and its alliance in Maharashtra, as it may pave the way for other MLAs to follow suit. Notably, the Congress has already lost key figures like Milind Deora to Shiv Sena and Baba Siddique to NCP.

While Mahua Moitra refrained from directly mentioning any specific leader or scandal, the resurgence of the Adarsh Scam discourse has coincided with Ashok Chavan’s defection to the BJP. Opposition figures have cited pending investigations against Chavan as potential leverage for his move to the BJP. Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam attributed Chavan’s decision to discontent with Nana Patole’s leadership style.

Responding to allegations related to the Adarsh Scam, Chavan maintained his innocence, citing a favorable decision by the Bombay High Court and dismissing the issue as a political distraction. Despite lingering scrutiny from certain agencies, Chavan declared the matter a non-issue, emphasizing his readiness to move past it.
