During his brief visit to Kerala, Prime Minister Modi stopped by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, where he gave the astronauts “astronaut wings” and gave an update on the Gaganyaan Mission’s progress.
India’s first manned space mission, called Gaganyaan, is scheduled to launch in 2024 or 2025. The project plans to send a three-person crew into a 400-kilometer orbit for a three-day mission, with the goal of safely returning them to Earth by landing in Indian Ocean waters.
According to an ISRO press release, the mission is carried out through an optimal strategy that takes into account internal knowledge, industry experience, academic and research institution intellectual capacity, and cutting-edge technologies available with foreign agencies.
