Theft Racket Operating Inside IGI Airport Busted, 2 Accused Arrested

The team at IGI Airport has been successful in dismantling a theft ring operating inside the airport terminals and has solved one case of luggage theft that was reported to the IGIA unit with the arrest of one female leader who works for the ground handling agency and her assistance.

The IGI Airport team was closely monitoring the operations of the loaders working for various airlines and ground handling companies in order to reduce the threat of baggage theft at the airport. They did this in collaboration with the vigilance departments of various airlines and other security authorities. They were being quietly observed as they moved while being continuously captured on camera.

Sana Mumtaz W/o Mumtaz Ahmad, a female loader, was apprehended on April 5, 2023, by the PS IGI Airport team with the assistance of the airlines’ vigilance department.

Sana had stolen three passenger stroller bags from level 4 of the airport in New Delhi and had transferred the stolen items to her rented home with the aid of a known friend. A case FIR No. 207/2023 u/s 379 IPC was subsequently filed, and the inquiry was started.

In the current case, the suspect Sana Mumtaz was taken to the police station, questioned there, and then arrested. She revealed that as of 2020, she had been employed as a loader by CELIBI, a provider of ground handling support.

She intended to steal luggage from the IGI Airport in New Delhi and move it with the aid of her flatmate Malti D/o Krishan Chand because her salary of 20,000 was insufficient for her.

On April 2, 2023, she also stole three pram bags from various offices of the airline company, took them outside of the airport using a free access card provided by her ground handling company, and then gave the card to the other co-accused/her roommate, who then transported the stolen items in an Ola Cab.

Given the gravity of the situation, a specific squad of police officers was formed, consisting of SI Vinod Kumar, W/HC Dayawati, and W/Ct. Pooja, led by SHO/IGIA Inspr. Yashpal Singh and overseen by ACP/IGI Sh. Virender Mor.

The team worked diligently, and with the use of sophisticated surveillance, the team tracked down the co-accused. Raids were carried out at the location of her associate, Malti W/o Krishan Chand, and she was apprehended; three pram bags, 10-gram gold, and other stolen items were found in her hands.

Further investigation is in progress.
