Prayagraj: The tug of war over the position of Prabhandak Mukhia Mahant of Shri Panchayati Akhara Bada Udasin for Kumbh Mela 2025 has intensified following the expulsion of Mahant Raghu Muni Maharaj and two other mahants.
Mahant Raghu Muni accused three mahants of his Akhara of falsely expelling him. He explained that the tradition in Panchayati Akhara Bada Udasin requires four mahants in Panch Parmeshwar, but Shri Mahant Maheshwar Das, Mahant Durga Das, and Mahant Advaitanand expelled him on false charges.
Mahant Raghu Muni argued that only Panch Parmeshwar can expel a mahant and claimed the action against him was arbitrary and unconstitutional. He alleged the expulsion was to prevent him from organizing the Mahakumbh, which was his responsibility.
In response, Mahant Raghu Muni filed an FIR at Kydganj police station under sections 420, 467, 468, 469, 471, 323, 504, 506, and 120 IPC against Mahant Durga Das, Vyasmuni Mukami Mahant, Premdas Mukami Mahant, and another individual. The FIR accused them of defaming senior mahants with lies and baseless allegations and attempting to fraudulently take over the post of General Secretary in the Akhara.
Raghu Muni also accused the three mahants of improperly approving Rs 1.5 crore for the Mahakumbh without authority. He claimed they also expelled Mahant Agradas and Kothari Damodardas of Haridwar Kankhal from the Akhara without right.
Mahant Raghu Muni announced plans to approach the court and raise the issue with the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, the highest body of saints.
