Terror Cannot Shake India’s Unity, Says President Droupadi Murmu On Pahalgam Terror Attack Anniversary

President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday honoured the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, asserting that terrorism cannot weaken India’s enduring commitment to harmony and solidarity.

India marked one year since the devastating assault in which Pakistan-backed militants killed 26 tourists after identifying their religion. The incident remains among the most brutal civilian-targeted attacks in recent years.

In a post on X, the President stated that the tragic loss of innocent lives continues to resonate deeply across the nation.

President Murmu conveyed sincere condolences to bereaved families and emphasised that the entire country stands united with them. She affirmed that acts of terror cannot shake India’s steadfast dedication to peace and unity and reiterated the nation’s resolve to eliminate terrorism in all forms.

The attack occurred on April 22, 2025, when 26 individuals were killed by The Resistance Front, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The assailants targeted victims based on religion, forcing them to recite Islamic verses. Among the deceased were 25 tourists and one local pony operator who attempted a rescue. Several victims were newly married and were shot at close range.

In response, Indian forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 6 and 7. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Officials described it as precise and calibrated. It neutralised threats, deterred escalation, and reinforced India’s zero-tolerance stance while maintaining strategic restraint.
