Telangana Sets 15-Day Deadline To Address Minority Education Concerns

In a decisive move to strengthen minority education, the Telangana government has pledged swift resolution of pending issues after a high-level discussion with the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI).

The dialogue, held on Friday, focused on improving collaboration between minority educational institutions and state authorities.

The meeting brought together Prof Shahid Akhter, Officiating Chairman of NCMEI, Telangana’s Minorities Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin, Secretary B Shafiullah (IFS), and representatives of the Minority Educational Institutions Association of Telangana State.

Minister Azharuddin greeted participants with a traditional shawl and bouquet, emphasising mutual respect and shared commitment to minority educational advancement.

Central to the discussions were the constitutional protections under Article 30(1) and operational powers provided by Sections 10 & 12B of the NCMEI Act, 2004.

The participants reviewed these frameworks to ensure that state-level practices fully respect the autonomy of minority institutions and their right to manage and administer educational establishments.

The meeting concluded with firm commitments from the Telangana government. Minister Azharuddin assured that the Telangana government would address all pending issues affecting minority educational institutions within 15 days.

Additionally, he announced the initiation of regular monthly meetings with institutional representatives. This measure is designed to ensure ongoing dialogue and faster resolution of grievances.

Expert Participation Enhances Dialogue

The discussion benefited from insights shared by distinguished attendees, including Colonel Tahir Mustafa, Registrar of Jamia Hamdard, and Delhi-based dermatologist Dr Raihan Shakeel. Their participation highlighted the involvement of community professionals in shaping educational reforms.

Their perspectives provided a broader understanding of systemic challenges faced by minority institutions across India.

The Hyderabad meeting signals a shift from adversarial approaches to cooperative engagement.

Stakeholders hope that the Telangana government’s clear action timeline and institutionalised monthly consultations will reduce administrative hurdles. They also believe this approach will strengthen the rights and functioning of minority educational institutions.

This renewed commitment promises to foster a proactive governance model. It also ensures that minority communities have access to uninterrupted and well-supported educational opportunities.
