NIA raids six locations
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids across Telangana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala in connection with a case involving a prominent CPI (Maoist) leader who was apprehended by Telangana Police in Hyderabad back in September 2023.
The NIA teams executed searches at six locations, including two in Hyderabad, and one each in Thane (Maharashtra), Chennai, Malappuram, and Palakkad (Kerala), as stated by an NIA spokesperson in New Delhi.
During these extensive searches, the NIA seized significant evidence, including incriminating documents and literature associated with the banned CPI (Maoist) group. Additionally, six mobile phones with SIM cards and a sum of Rs 1,37,210 in cash were confiscated, according to the official.
The case originated from a Cyberabad Police investigation in Telangana following the arrest of Sanjay Deepak Rao, a Central Committee Member of CPI (Maoist) in September 2023. At the time of his arrest, authorities seized a revolver with live ammunition, forged Aadhaar cards, cash amounting to Rs 47,280, and other materials from Rao’s possession.
Upon assuming control of the case in January 2024, the NIA discovered that Rao was actively involved in furthering the agenda of the banned Naxal organization in the tri-junction area of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, according to the official statement.
Sanjay Deepak Rao allegedly directed other key members of the CPI (Maoist) to carry out operations in urban areas across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala to advance the outfit’s activities, as per reports.
