Tejashwi Yadav Takes a Swipe at Nitish Kumar with ‘Hamare Chachaji Palat Gaye’; BJP Responds

Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), took a swipe at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, suggesting that he had been “hijacked.” Yadav remarked, “Our CM was hijacked. Hamare Chacha ji palat gaye (Our Uncle has turned). But we always respected him and we will continue to do that. He is a father figure and we will respect him even in the time to come,” according to ANI.

Yadav further commented on the BJP-NDA alliance, implying that they anticipate defeat in the elections. He characterized their approach as one of leadership rather than service, labeling them as authoritarian politicians. He confidently stated, “This time the people of the country are fighting the election…Modi era has ended in 2024.”

Nitish Kumar, who had previously left the NDA alliance in 2022 to join hands with the RJD, reversed his stance once more by returning to the NDA fold in January of this year. Currently, the BJP is contesting 17 seats in Bihar, while Kumar’s JDU is contesting 16. This configuration differs from the 2019 elections when both the BJP and JD(U) contested on 17 seats each, contributing to the NDA’s victory of 39 out of 40 seats in the state.

In response to Tejashwi Yadav’s remarks, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Vijay Sinha emphasized Nitish Kumar’s criticisms of the RJD’s governance, highlighting Kumar’s concerns about corruption and lack of improvement.

Meanwhile, Lalu Prasad, RJD president and Tejashwi Yadav’s father, alleged that the NDA government was plotting to alter the constitution to abolish reservations for marginalized sections of society. He pledged to vehemently oppose any such move, asserting the importance of safeguarding the rights of backward classes and the socially disadvantaged.

Bihar is currently engaged in voting across all phases of the Lok Sabha elections. The third phase of general elections will see voting in Jhanjharpur, Supaul, Aratia, Madhepura, and Khagaria. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.
