Supreme Court to Hear Muzaffarnagar School Assault Case on Feb 9; UP Government Raises School Distance Concerns

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case regarding the widely circulated video depicting the assault on a school child in Muzaffarnagar, UP, on February 9. During the recent proceedings, the children’s representative requested additional time to study a received report, and the court granted the request. The lawyer for the Uttar Pradesh government argued that the new school is too distant for the children, lacking suitable alternatives nearby.

Acknowledging the scarcity of good schools in the vicinity, the court allowed parties to provide suggestions in the next hearing. In the previous session, the UP government informed the court that the child had sought admission in a CBSE medium school. Expressing concern over the incident, the Supreme Court had questioned the delay in investigation and FIR registration by the UP Police, leading to the directive to assign a senior IPS officer to monitor the investigation and submit a report to the court.”
