In a significant development, the Supreme Court directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday to address any irregularities found in the conduct of the NEET (UG) examination.
Vacation judges Justices Vikram Nath and S V N Bhatti stressed the urgent need for absolute diligence in administering the NEET exam. The bench stressed the importance of promptly investigating and correcting any hint of negligence.
The apex court underscored the potential detrimental consequences of fraudulent practices in the medical entrance exam system, cautioning against any compromise in maintaining the integrity of competitive examinations.
It urged the NTA to promptly acknowledge and rectify any errors to uphold public trust in the fairness of such crucial tests.
In response to the court’s directives, the NTA emphasized the need to avoid drawing premature conclusions based solely on speculation. They emphasized the necessity for a formal response before the court to effectively address the allegations.
The Supreme Court granted a two-week period for the NTA to submit its detailed response to the allegations of irregularities in the NEET (UG) exam. The court additionally consolidated the petition with the existing batch of petitions scheduled for hearing on 8 July.
Earlier developments had seen revelations from the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police, where two individuals confessed to their involvement in the leak of NEET (UG) question papers.
Despite pleas for an ex-parte CBI probe into the matter, the Supreme Court refrained from immediately ordering such an investigation, opting instead to await the NTA’s comprehensive reply to the fresh petitions.
The upcoming hearings promise to shed further light on the allegations and subsequent actions regarding the integrity of the NEET (UG) examination process, underscoring the judiciary’s commitment to upholding transparency and fairness in educational assessments.
