On Thursday, the Supreme Court’s review of the RG Kar Medical College & Hospital rape-murder case is expected to significantly impact the Trinamool Congress’s strategy and forthcoming actions.
The party faces mounting pressure as widespread protests continue to challenge its position.
Sources within the party, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed that the upcoming Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) progress report will be pivotal in shaping their strategy.
A senior party official explained, “Should the report contain highly damaging information for the state government, we will need to adapt our approach accordingly. Conversely, if the findings are less critical, our strategy will shift.”
The official further indicated that a lack of significant progress in the investigation could lead the party to question the CBI’s credibility once more.
However, if the report uncovers sensitive details, the party’s approach will likely become more cautious and defensive.
Equally significant will be the Supreme Court’s handling of the case and its observations during the proceedings.
Any adverse comments from the court could add to the state government’s challenges, intensifying the scrutiny faced by the ruling party.
In the meantime, junior doctors and medical students across the state have vowed to continue their protests until the investigation yields a satisfactory resolution.
A recent delegation of junior doctors submitted a memorandum to Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal, demanding his resignation and accountability for the initial investigation’s shortcomings.
