Supreme Court Drops Contempt Proceedings Against Telangana CM Revanth Reddy

The Supreme Court has closed contempt proceedings against Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in the cash for vote scam after he issued an apology. Justice BR Gavai, leading the bench, emphasized the need for mutual respect among constitutional officials.

Concerns Over Fair Trial

During the last hearing, the court sought clarification on Reddy’s comments regarding K Kavitha’s bail. The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the prosecution were aligned with the Chief Minister, compromising the fairness of the trial. The petitioners, including former Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Reddy, requested that the case be transferred to Madhya Pradesh for a fair trial, citing concerns over Reddy’s influence as the main accused and current Home Minister.

The court noted its displeasure over Reddy’s remarks and kept the issue of case transfer open. The cash-for-vote scam dates back to May 31, 2015, when the ACB arrested Reddy for allegedly bribing a nominated MLA. Evidence, including audio and video recordings, has been included in the charge sheet to substantiate the allegations.
