The Supreme Court has decided to continue its interim order regarding the instructions issued by the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh governments to put up nameplates for shopkeepers on the Kanwar Yatra route. However, the court clarified that its order does not prevent individuals from voluntarily displaying their names outside their shops.
During the hearing, the court granted additional time to the Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh governments to file a reply. Ultimately, the Uttar Pradesh government argued that a unilateral ban had been imposed, while the TMC MP Mahua Moitra’s lawyer suggested that the order was not essential this year.

The Uttar Pradesh government file an affidavit stating that the instructions issue after receiving complaints from shops and eateries, aiming to address concerns and maintain law and order. The government emphasized its commitment to protecting religious sentiments.
However, the court had previously put an interim stay on the instructions, requiring shopkeepers to clearly indicate whether their food is vegetarian or non-vegetarian. The case will continue in the Supreme Court.
