Several spectators were injured, including three seriously, after a stampede-like situation broke out at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) International Stadium in Ranchi’s Dhurwa area during the final of the Jharkhand Premier League T20 tournament on Tuesday evening.
According to officials, three injured spectators, a young man and two young women, were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
Hospital sources said all three are currently undergoing medical care.
Eyewitnesses said a large number of cricket fans had gathered at the stadium since the afternoon to watch the tournament final.
Moments before the match began, a heavy rush developed near the West Gate.
Long queues had reportedly formed due to slow entry procedures and delays in security checks.
As the crowd pressure increased, spectators began pushing and jostling. The situation soon turned stampede-like, leaving several people injured.
The situation further deteriorated as frustration mounted among spectators over the delays and disorder. Some attendees allegedly attempted to breach the security cordon, resulting in damage to sections of the West Gate and nearby barricades.
Police and administrative officials rushed to the venue after receiving information about the incident and initiated crowd-control measures.
Additional security personnel were deployed, and the situation was eventually brought under control.
Authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
Security arrangements at the stadium have since been strengthened.
The episode during the high-profile final has raised concerns over crowd management and safety protocols at major sporting events in the state.
