North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari Champions Sports Promotion As Sports Festival Begins

A large community gathering marked the inauguration of a major sports festival in North-East Delhi, where Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Vice-Chairman N Shravan Kumar opened a cricket tournament featuring 42 teams at the DDA grounds near Khajuri Chowk.

The initiative, organised by MP Manoj Tiwari as part of a nationwide call to promote sports at the parliamentary level, drew local leaders, councillors, committee members, and hundreds of residents.

Leaders, including Vinod Kumar, Dr UK Chaudhary, MLA Ajay Mahawar, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, Zone Chairman Puneet Sharma and several other representatives were present to encourage the participants.

Addressing players and residents, Shravan Kumar praised Tiwari’s long-standing effort to identify and support hidden sporting talent across neighbourhoods. He noted that Tiwari had been organising similar festivals for 11 years, consistently helping young athletes gain exposure and opportunities.

Kumar assured full support from the DDA to strengthen sports facilities across North-East Delhi. He instructed officials from the Horticulture Department to prioritise the construction of more parks and to integrate well-developed playgrounds within them to meet growing community needs.

Speaking at the event, MP Manoj Tiwari highlighted the significance of sports in building discipline, integrity, and emotional strength. He said that teachers and mentors had historically used sporting activities to instil values in the younger generation.

Tiwari praised the Union Government’s emphasis on fostering healthy lifestyles among youth, noting that physical fitness and positive behaviour are essential for India’s progress.

He further added that sports help transform determination into achievement, playing a vital role in shaping exemplary citizens.

Manoj Tiwari said that millions of talented players once lacked opportunities because resources were limited. He added that sustained government initiatives since 2014 had opened new pathways for aspiring athletes.

Tiwari further expressed pride in supporting thousands of young players through community-level tournaments over the past decade.

Match Results and Prize Money

Tournament media coordinator Anand Trivedi reported that Jhadoda, Mukherjee Nagar and Sadatpur won their respective matches on the first day.

In a major encouragement to participants, Tiwari announced increased prize money. The winners will receive ₹2 lakh, the runners-up ₹1 lakh, and the team securing third place ₹51,000.
