Today, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) is convening to finalize its strategy for the forthcoming assembly elections in five states. This crucial meeting, taking place in Hyderabad, aims to bolster the party’s campaign, particularly in poll-bound Telangana.
The CWC meeting will be chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and it will also be attended by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Kharge emphasized that the Congress has long championed democracy, social justice, progress, and equality in the nation. He stated, “In consonance with our long-cherished philosophy, the Congress Working Committee will craft a comprehensive roadmap to lead the party towards victory.” The primary focus of these meetings will be the strengthening of the organization.
Kharge also conveyed a message from former Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi, who noted the party’s fulfillment of its promise to the people of Telangana with the creation of the state in 2014. She expressed the intention to lead the state into a new era of progress and prosperity and underscored the CWC’s readiness to contribute to the development and dignity of the people of Telangana and the nation.
Party General Secretary K.C. Venugopal expressed confidence that the Congress would secure victory in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram, all of which are scheduled for elections later this year.
In addition to the CWC meeting, the Congress plans to hold a significant rally in Hyderabad, during which it will announce six guarantees for the people of Telangana. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh described the CWC meeting as historic and potentially transformative for Telangana politics.
Ramesh also launched a scathing criticism of the government led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao, referring to it as equivalent to the Modi government. Telangana is gearing up for a triangular contest between the BJP, the ruling BRS party, and the Congress, making it a crucial battleground state with implications for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Last month, the Congress reconstituted the Congress Working Committee, with some unexpected additions. The committee now consists of 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees, and 13 special invitees, reflecting the party’s renewed focus on organizational restructuring.
