Six Detained In Ghaziabad Over Pakistan-Linked Surveillance Operation

Ghaziabad Police detained six individuals for allegedly participating in an espionage network that operatives based in Pakistan controlled. During questioning, investigators discovered that the accused were receiving money in exchange for obtaining and sharing confidential information.

Authorities stated that the suspects primarily focused on targets located in Mumbai and the National Capital Region (NCR), particularly sites connected to transportation and security.

Officials revealed that a Pakistani handler guided the suspects and communicated with them through WhatsApp. Investigators traced the contact number used for communication to Pakistan.

According to the probe, the accused were paid between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 for each task involving the collection of sensitive information.

Police said the group recorded videos of several strategic locations, including deployment areas of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and offices linked to security agencies.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the suspects had secretly installed a camera at Delhi Cantt Railway Station several months earlier.

The device allegedly transmitted live visuals of the station and its surrounding areas to handlers located in Pakistan.

Officials further stated that the accused had also shared details related to railway infrastructure, defence establishments, and certain government offices, leading authorities to raise security alerts.

Police confiscated eight mobile phones that the suspects allegedly used to record footage and transmit information to their handlers.

Authorities have charged the accused under Sections 152 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act.

Investigators are currently reviewing call records and working to recover deleted files to determine the full scale of the espionage operation.
