Six Bilateral Agreements Mark India–Malaysia Push For Economic, Cultural & Security Cooperation

Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Anwar Ibrahim oversaw the signing of six major agreements in Kuala Lumpur, marking a significant step in advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Malaysia.

The agreements cover multiple sectors, including defence, security, trade, investment, semiconductors, energy, renewable resources, tourism, cultural exchange, digital and emerging technologies, healthcare, disaster management, and social security for Indian workers in Malaysia.

Both leaders emphasised expanding collaboration in both traditional and new-age sectors.

PM Modi announced the establishment of a dedicated Thiruvalluvar Centre at Universiti Malaya and Thiruvalluvar scholarships to promote the philosophy of the ancient Tamil poet and strengthen people-to-people ties.

The initiative underscores the shared cultural heritage and the enduring presence of the Indian diaspora in Malaysia.

National Payments Corporation of India (NIPL) and Malaysia’s PayNet agreed to develop bilateral payment linkages, including integration through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), to facilitate seamless remittances, payments, and business transactions between the two countries.

Malaysia completed formalities to join the International Big Cat Alliance, supporting biodiversity protection.

Leaders presented the 10th India–Malaysia CEO Forum report, outlining steps to boost trade, investment and business ties.

The agreements will strengthen economic, cultural and people-to-people relations between the two countries.
