Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat is in Brazil to participate in the G-20 Tourism Ministers’ meeting. During his visit on Thursday, Shekhawat explored the historic Presepio Fort and Museum, one of Brazil’s oldest forts, built in the 16th century.
Shekhawat described the fort as a significant monument that reflects Brazil’s colonial past, with memories of Portuguese rule and the nation’s fight for independence. He called the site a fascinating blend of Brazilian culture and history.
At the G-20 Tourism Ministerial Conference, Shekhawat highlighted India’s commitment to sustainable tourism. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, he emphasized the importance of skill development for tourism stakeholders and preserving cultural heritage. He also met with Jamaican Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett to discuss enhancing tourism cooperation between India and Jamaica.
