Sharadiya Navratri honours Goddess Durga and her nine forms.
Devotees across India observe prayers, rituals and religious ceremonies throughout the festival, which begins in the Hindu lunar month of Ashwin and concludes with Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra.
Goddess Shailaputri, meaning ‘daughter of the mountain’, represents the first form of Goddess Durga worshipped during Navratri.
Devotees seek her blessings for strength, well-being and prosperity as the festival begins.
