Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Durga and her nine forms, with devotees observing prayers and religious rituals over nine days.
The festival begins in the Hindu lunar month of Ashwin and concludes with Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra.
Goddess Shailputri, the first form of Goddess Durga, is worshipped on the opening day. Devotees seek her blessings for strength, well-being and prosperity as they begin the festival.
