Shah Promises 33% Job Reservation For Women, Industry Push In Bengal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday outlined an economic revival roadmap for West Bengal, promising to prioritise the return of industries that have moved out of the state during the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress, if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power after the ongoing Assembly elections.

Addressing a rally in Habra in North 24 Parganas district, Shah said unemployment remains the state’s biggest challenge, attributing it to inadequate industrial activity and lack of large-scale investments.

The Minister announced that a BJP government would establish four new industrial townships across the state and work to bring back companies that allegedly relocated due to extortion syndicates linked to ruling party leaders.

During his speech, Shah also targeted Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his recent remarks describing the Prime Minister as a terrorist. He criticised the statement as baseless and linked it to Kharge’s association with Rahul Gandhi.

The Minister further questioned the political alignment between the Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, suggesting that such alliances weaken governance credibility.

Shah asserted that if voted to power, the BJP would eliminate terrorism from West Bengal in line with its claims of success in other parts of the country.

Later, at another rally in Saptagram in Hooghly district, Shah announced that the BJP plans to reserve 33 per cent of state government jobs for women. He also reiterated that curbing illegal infiltration would be a core priority, alleging that such infiltration impacts employment opportunities for local youth.

Shah accused the state government of remaining silent on the issue due to political considerations, claiming that illegal infiltrators form a dedicated support base for the ruling party.
