Severe Flooding In Andhra Pradesh Claims 15 Lives; Impacts Over 4.48 Lakh People

Heavy rainfall and flooding across Andhra Pradesh have resulted in 15 fatalities and disrupted the lives of more than 4.48 lakh residents across seven districts, according to officials on Monday.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have mobilized 39 teams for search and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, authorities have requested to provide two helicopters, and they have already deployed one to Vijayawada.

The state government has urgently appealed to the Centre for six additional helicopters, 10 NDRF teams, and 40 motorized boats to bolster rescue efforts and provide essential supplies.

Efforts to evacuate affected areas have included the deployment of 80 boats (37 non-motorized and 43 motorized) in Vijayawada, with an additional 39 boats en route from Kakinada, Eluru, and Prakasam.

Authorities have assigned another 64 boats to Krishna and Bapatla districts and are supporting rescue operations with 276 active swimmers.

The NTR district has been particularly hard-hit, accounting for seven deaths, including five due to landslides in Vijayawada.

Guntur district has reported five fatalities, including the tragic drowning of a teacher and two students from a private school.

In Prakasam district, three children drowned in the flooding.

The floods have severely impacted agriculture, damaging crops across 1.51 lakh hectares in 20 districts, with an additional 13,920 hectares of horticultural crops affected.

In response to the crisis, 166 relief camps have been established, sheltering 31,238 displaced individuals.

NTR district alone has seen 2.76 lakh people affected, with 11,567 relocated to 67 relief camps.

Guntur, the second worst-affected district, has seen over 75,000 people impacted and 1,462 relocated.

Eluru district reports 30,592 affected, Palnadu 25,324, and Bapatla 30,785.
