SEMICON India 2026: PM Modi To Inaugurate Fifth Edition On September 17

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026 on September 17, as India seeks to strengthen its domestic semiconductor ecosystem.

The three-day conference and exhibition will run until September 19. It will carry the theme ‘Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem’.

The India Semiconductor Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and global industry body SEMI will jointly organise the event.

The programme will bring together policymakers, semiconductor firms, industry leaders, researchers, academics, start-ups and students. They will discuss developments across the semiconductor and electronics value chain.

The Centre has recently approved Semicon 2.0 to bolster semiconductor manufacturing and supply chains.

The government is backing research, innovation and chip design.

More than 332 academic institutions and 105 start-ups have access to advanced design tools.

24 start-ups have received approval under the Design Linked Incentive scheme.

Under Semicon 1.0, the government has approved 12 projects. Three have already begun commercial production, MeitY Secretary S Krishnan said. He said Semicon 2.0’s six major pillars would further reinforce India’s semiconductor ambitions.

SEMI CEO Ajit Manocha said India can expand its global role through its talent pool, policy support and long-term vision.

SEMI India and IESA President Ashok Chandak said the event would promote collaboration across the sector.

More than 500 exhibitors, including over 240 international companies, are expected. Delegations from more than 40 countries will attend.

The event will feature six country pavilions, 10 state pavilions, a start-up pavilion, an innovation showcase, a pitch competition, a student hackathon and a workforce development pavilion.
