Security Forces Seize Massive Cache Of Ammunition And Explosives In Kupwara

Security forces have recovered a substantial cache of ammunition and explosives in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, the Army reported on Thursday. The Army’s statement detailed that a joint operation by the Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police, based on specific intelligence inputs, led to the recovery of a large stockpile in the Keran Sector.

The recovered items include AK-47 rounds, hand grenades, RPG rounds, materials for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and other war-like stores. The seizures occurred on Wednesday, marking a significant achievement given the current security situation and upcoming events in the region.

According to the Army, the intelligence tip-off came from a special election observer deployed in Jammu & Kashmir, and it likely helped avert a major incident in North Kashmir. The Army emphasized its commitment to maintaining stability and peace in the area.

Deadly Encounter

Moreover, this operation follows a deadly encounter in the Basantgarh area of Jammu & Kashmir, where security forces killed two terrorists on Tuesday. Recent months have seen a series of encounters between terrorists and security forces across Jammu and Kashmir, with numerous terrorists and their commanders being eliminated. Meanwhile, Pakistan is reportedly intensifying infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) and attempting to send weapons before winter sets in.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has recently thwarted multiple attempts to drop weapons via drones from Pakistan near the International Border in Jammu, recovering several weapon caches in the process.

Terrorist Activities

Despite heightened vigilance by the Army at the LoC, terrorist activities are now spreading to previously quieter areas of Jammu and Kashmir, such as the Chenab Valley, Udhampur, and Kathua. These areas, once deemed relatively free of militancy, are experiencing increased violence, with terrorists using sophisticated weapons like grenades, armor-piercing bullets, and M4 assault rifles.

Sources further indicate that the rise in militancy and advanced weaponry points to a significant escalation in the threat level, prompting political criticism and calls for stronger security measures. The ongoing anti-terror operations have driven terrorists into mountainous hideouts, where they await opportunities to attack security forces.

Analysts further suggest that a comprehensive strategy, including enhanced intelligence gathering and improved coordination among security forces, is crucial to addressing the escalating militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
