The militants were suspected to have been involved in recent assaults on army and police personnel in the region. A significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including a US-made M4 carbine, was recovered from the site of the encounter.

Vijay Kumar, Additional Director General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir, stated that the police had received intelligence about the presence of three militants prior to launching a search operation earlier today. Over the past week, operations have been escalated in Doda, Rajouri, and Poonch regions following a spate of terrorist attacks.

On June 11, an army camp was targeted, resulting in injuries to five soldiers and a special police officer. In another incident, militants attacked a police camp, injuring a policeman.
