Security operations in Jammu & Kashmir intensified as authorities apprehended Zakir Hameed Mir, a suspected armed terrorist from Kachri village in Handwara tehsil, Kupwara district, linked to handlers in Pakistan, while security forces simultaneously neutralized another militant in an encounter in Bandipora’s Aragam village.
Security operations in Jammu & Kashmir remain active as authorities apprehended a suspected armed terrorist on Monday in Kupwara district.
Identified as Zakir Hameed Mir from Kachri village, Handwara tehsil in Kashmir, Mir was reportedly in active contact with handlers across the border in Pakistan.
“The arrested terrorist is currently undergoing interrogation, and we expect more revelations as the investigation unfolds,” stated officials involved in the operation, withholding further details about the circumstances leading to Mir’s arrest.
In a separate incident earlier today, security forces engaged in an encounter in Aragam village, Bandipora district, where they successfully neutralized one terrorist.
Meanwhile, the operation, triggered by specific intelligence inputs, commenced early Monday morning with the cordoning off of the area suspected to harbor militants.
“Upon closing in on the militants’ location, they opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire resulting in the death of one terrorist. Efforts are underway to establish the identity of the deceased,” officials reported.
Local reports however indicated that the encounter began after gunfire was heard. It prompted the immediate deployment of security personnel who swiftly secured the area and launched search operations.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir, emphasizing, “The J&K Police and security forces are under strict orders to dismantle the terror infrastructure.”
Jammu & Kashmir has remained a focal point in India’s counter-terrorism efforts, with sustained operations aimed at neutralizing terrorist networks operating within and across the border.
The security apparatus continues to be vigilant, ensuring proactive measures to safeguard peace and stability in the region.
