SC Student Gets Assaulted By Classmates; TN CM Expresses Concern

A class 12 student hailing from the SC community was reportedly assaulted by his classmates, revealing a continuation of past animosity, in Tirunelveli district. Concurrently, Chief Minister M K Stalin conveyed his concerns about the infiltration of “casteism poison” into the minds of young individuals.

During the attack at Nanguneri, the victim’s sister was also harmed when the assailants forcibly entered their residence and subjected the student to physical violence, as reported by the police.

The altercation stemmed from a previous clash involving the victim and the attackers, underscoring the context of the incident. Six minors have been apprehended in relation to this incident and have subsequently been placed in a juvenile home.

In response to the situation, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi expressed his distress and promised to oversee the financial aspects of the medical treatment and education of the victims.

Chief Minister Stalin expressed deep concern regarding the occurrence, describing it as unsettling. He highlighted how deeply the poison of casteism has infiltrated young students’ thoughts, deeming the outbreak of violence due to caste differences as unacceptable. CM Stalin stated this sentiment in a tweet and emphasized that the legal system will follow its due course in addressing the case.

He urged the collective effort of everyone to instil the importance of harmonious social relationships among students. The teaching community, in particular, should spearhead these efforts. He further emphasized that animosity and discrimination lead nowhere, emphasizing the significance of unity and equality.
