Sanjay Nishad Recalls Journey From Doctor To Political Leader At Conclave

Sanjay Nishad reflected on his remarkable journey from the medical profession to active politics while speaking at the Bharat Express Conclave.

The Uttar Pradesh minister narrated how his early experiences as a doctor shaped his understanding of social inequality and community struggles.

Nishad explained that he began his career as a medical practitioner serving rural and marginalised populations.

During this period, he closely observed the hardships faced by the Nishad and other backward communities. These encounters gradually pushed him toward public life and political activism.

He credited veteran social reformer Kanshi Ram for guiding his political thinking.

Nishad said Kanshi Ram’s ideas on social empowerment inspired him to organise marginalised communities and demand political representation.

Kanshi Ram founded the Bahujan Samaj Party and worked extensively to mobilise the backward and Dalit communities in India.

Nishad noted that his entry into politics aimed to secure dignity and rights for riverine communities such as boatmen and fishermen. He later founded the NISHAD Party to represent these groups and strengthen their voice in governance.

During his remarks, Nishad also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the aspirations of marginalised communities. He said PM Modi’s leadership had created opportunities for communities that historically remained outside the mainstream political discourse.

Sanjay Nishad argued that the Nishad community now possesses significant political awareness and influence. He emphasised that their participation in democratic processes has strengthened their bargaining power within national politics.

The minister further highlighted the importance of education and organisation among backward communities.

Sanjay Nishad urged younger generations to combine social awareness with modern education to achieve progress.

Political observers say Nishad’s narrative reflects the broader transformation of regional leaders who rise from grassroots movements to hold government positions. His journey from doctor to political leader symbolises the growing political assertion of communities historically associated with river-based occupations.
