Samrat Choudhary To Be Sworn In As Bihar Chief Minister Today After Nitish Kumar Resigns

Bihar is set for a significant political change as Samrat Choudhary prepares to be sworn in as the state’s new Chief Minister on Wednesday.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the Raj Bhavan in Patna at 10:50 AM, where Governor Syed Ata Hasnain will administer the oath of office.

Samrat Choudhary, who most recently served as Deputy Chief Minister, was chosen to lead the BJP Legislative Party and the National Democratic Alliance. The decision followed the resignation of Nitish Kumar.

Nitish Kumar stepped down after more than two decades in power and is expected to move to the Rajya Sabha.

This transition marks the first time a Bharatiya Janata Party leader will assume the Chief Minister’s post in Bihar.

Alongside Choudhary, two leaders from the Janata Dal (United), Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, are likely to be sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers.

Several senior figures are expected to attend the ceremony. These include Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda and BJP leader BL Santhosh. Other party representatives from across the country are also likely to be present.

On Tuesday, Samrat Choudhary met Governor Hasnain at the Raj Bhavan to formally stake his claim to form the government.

The BJP has expressed optimism that the new administration will focus on development and governance in the state.

Samrat Choudhary began his political career in the early 1990s. He first became a minister in 1999 under the government led by Rabri Devi.

Over the years, he handled several key departments, including urban development and panchayati raj. He later became Deputy Chief Minister in 2024.

With this change in leadership, Bihar enters a new political phase following Nitish Kumar’s long tenure at the helm.
