Sahibabad School Under Scrutiny Over Mobile Tower On Ageing Building

A private school in Sahibabad, a locality in Ghaziabad, has come under scrutiny following allegations that it is operating from a structurally weakened building with a mobile tower installed on its rooftop.

According to local residents, nearly 200 students attend classes in the building, directly beneath the tower. They have raised concerns about continuous exposure to radiation and the potential impact on children’s health.

Residents have also flagged the condition of the building, stating that its ageing structure, combined with the weight of the mobile tower, could pose a serious safety risk.

Experts note that children are generally more susceptible to environmental hazards due to ongoing physical and neurological development.

Parents and members of the local community have alleged negligence on the part of the school management and claimed that relevant authorities failed to intervene in a timely manner.

Several parents said they were unaware of the presence of the tower and expressed concern over their children’s safety. They have demanded an immediate inspection of the premises and strict enforcement of safety norms.

Residents have demanded the removal of the tower or the closure of the school if authorities establish violations.

District Basic Education Officer OP Yadav said he had not received prior information regarding the matter but assured that appropriate action would be initiated after verification.

In contrast, neighbouring Greater Noida has reportedly implemented stricter regulations, prohibiting the installation of mobile towers on school rooftops.

Authorities there require prior approval even for tower installations in public spaces such as parks and community areas.

Existing guidelines generally recommend that mobile towers be located at least 500 metres away from educational institutions.

Recently, authorities in Ahmedabad acted against a school after safety concerns emerged over a rooftop mobile tower.

Experts point out that radiation intensity is highest directly below antennas and within a radius of around 300 metres. This has raised concerns for students studying in close proximity to such installations.
