Saffron Paint On 60-year-old Statue Of Lord Buddha In University, Teachers Shocked

Lucknow: A case has come to light regarding the statue of Lord Buddha in Lucknow University of Uttar Pradesh. Actually the color of this idol of Lord Buddha was white. But teachers and students were surprised to see this statue installed at the main gate of the College of Arts and Crafts of the university, when they suddenly saw it painted in ‘saffron’ color. He also expressed displeasure on this.

At the same time, on finding out about the matter, it was found that a laborer doing painting work in the university did it by mistake.

Later The Color Of The Statue Was Changed

College of Arts and Crafts principal Ratan Kumar said that a laborer accidentally painted the idol in saffron color. But as soon as the matter came to my notice, I rectified the mistake and the idol was painted white. Earlier also the color of the idol was the same. Principal Ratan Kumar says that we are trying to make this idol of Lord Buddha beautiful.

The Idol Is So Many Years Old 

This statue of Lord Buddha, built at the main gate of the University’s College of Arts and Crafts, was made in the late 1950s. At that time this idol of Lord Buddha was made by famous sculptor Avtar Singh Panwar. The idol is about 60 years old. In the coming days, the foundation day of Lucknow University is going to fall. Keeping this in mind, painting and repair work is being done in the university campus before the foundation day celebrations.

Teachers Criticized The Administration

Meanwhile, the teachers of the university criticized the administration for tampering with the original form of the idol. A senior faculty member said in this regard that it is a matter of sadness that this idol, which is not just a piece of art, but has a history attached to it, was painted with a special color, losing its original form.
