Recently, a video was floated all over internet that showcased a tableau of the former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi’s assassination. The video was from Brampton city of Canada. Reacting to this, S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India has expressed his discontent over the matter. He even stated that this is “not good for Canada and its Relationship with India”
The parade also wanted to share a message through a sign that said, “Revenge for Attack on Shri Darbar Sahib” – referring to the storming of the Golden Temple by Indian troops in 1984.
According to reports, the parade was allegedly organised by Khalistani supporters on June 4 – just 2 days prior to the upcoming 39th anniversary of ‘Operation Blue Star’ on June 6.
The External Affairs Minister expressed him strongly in front of media. He stated that, “Frankly, we are at a loss to understand other than the requirements of vote bank politics why anybody would do this…I think there is a larger underlying issue about the space which is given to separatists, to extremists, to people who advocate violence.”
Jairam Ramesh, a senior congress leader called this depiction in the parade ‘despicable’. He even urged Mr. Jaishankar to take up the matter in the right way as it should be dealt strictly. Meanwhile, Congress’ Milind Deora said, “It’s not about taking sides, it’s about respect for a nation’s history & the pain caused by its Prime Minister’s assassination. This extremism deserves universal condemnation & a united response.”
