Robotic Surgery and Cutting-Edge Tech Take Centre Stage at Prayagraj Arthroplasty Conference

Orthopaedic experts from across India gathered in Prayagraj on Sunday for the city’s first Arthroplasty Meet. UP Orthopaedic Association (UPOA), Indian Arthroplasty Association (IOA), and Prayagraj Orthopaedic Association (POA) jointly organised the event. Over 200 delegates and faculty attended the conference, which focused on the latest trends in joint replacement surgery.

Dr Anup Agarwal, President of the Indian Orthopaedic Association, inaugurated the event. He shared the dais with UPOA President Dr Piyush Mishra and IAA President Dr Sanjiv Jain. POA President Dr Rakesh Chandra and Secretary Dr Nimish Agarwal presided over the meet. Organising President Dr KD Tripathi and Dr Kapil Kulsheshthra led the preparations, while Dr Maneesh Bansal served as Organising Secretary.

Robotics in surgery promises faster recovery

Dr Maneesh Bansal said the meet focused on robotic technology and other surgical innovations. He explained that discussions aimed to shorten the learning curve by encouraging experience-sharing. A delegate noted that although robotic surgeries remain expensive, prices will likely fall—just as with mobile phones—due to advancing technology.

Importantly, the Kalawati Memorial Oration became the event’s highlight. Dr Anil Arora, who has performed over 12,000 joint replacements, delivered the oration. He shared vital insights on robotic-assisted knee surgeries and their benefits. Dr Kiran Jain from New Delhi added that patients are now recovering in days, not months, thanks to precision and minimal invasiveness.

Experts from across India share knowledge

Meanwhile, Scientific Chair Prof DC Srivastava led technical sessions on joint replacement advancements. Renowned experts like Dr Anil Arora from Max Hospital New Delhi, Dr CS Yadav, Dr Vijay Kumar from AIIMS, Dr Sanjeev Jain from Mumbai, and Dr E Krishna Kiran from Hyderabad shared their research. Dr Rajkumar Natesan from Coimbatore and Dr Anil Thomas Oommen from CMC Vellore also presented.

Additionally, several other specialists joined from leading hospitals. These included Dr Karun Jain, Dr Jujhar Singh from Safdarjung Hospital New Delhi, Dr Debabrata Padhy from Bhubaneswar, Dr Ashish Kumar from KGMU, Dr SC Goel, Dr Amit Rastogi, Dr Sanjay Yadav from BHU, Dr Ajay Saigal from Varanasi, Dr Amrit Goyal from Agra, Dr Ravi Garg from Kanpur, Dr Ajay Rajput from Saifai, and Dr Gyaneshwar Tonk from Meerut.

Organising President Dr KD Tripathi thanked all delegates and faculty for their active participation. He praised the collaboration between UPOA, IAA, and POA for making the meet a success. Furthermore, he expressed hope that such events would continue to advance orthopaedic care across India.
