Republic Day Observance: PM Modi Honours Martyrs At National War Memorial

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 77th Republic Day on Monday with a solemn visit to the National War Memorial in New Delhi, where he paid homage to the nation’s fallen heroes.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh received the Prime Minister on his arrival, underscoring the significance of the ceremony.

Leading the country in remembrance, PM Modi laid a wreath at the memorial to honour soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The Inter-Services Guards, comprising one officer and 21 inner guards from the Army, Navy and Air Force, observed military traditions by performing ‘Salami Shastra’ followed by ‘Shok Shastra’ as a mark of respect.

Honouring the Nation’s Bravehearts

The ceremony was attended by senior defence officials, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.

Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth was also present. After the wreath-laying, the Prime Minister shared his reflections in the digital visitors’ book.

Earlier, PM Modi conveyed Republic Day wishes to citizens across the country on X, “Heartiest Republic Day greetings to all my fellow citizens. May this grand national festival, a symbol of India’s honour, pride, and glory, infuse new energy and enthusiasm into your lives. May the resolve for a developed India grow even stronger—this is my heartfelt wish.”

The Republic Day Parade will take place along Kartavya Path, with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen attending as the Chief Guests this year.

According to the Defence Ministry, this year’s parade will combine 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’ with an impressive display of India’s defence capabilities, featuring platforms such as the BrahMos and Akash missile systems.

Thirty colourful tableaux will showcase the country’s cultural diversity, while a grand flypast by 29 aircraft and helicopters, including Rafale and Apache, alongside performances by 2,500 artists, will underline India’s military strength and cultural pride.
