Red Alert In Delhi-NCR As Light Rain Hits The Region

Delhi-NCR experienced light rainfall on Thursday morning, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to raise its earlier ‘yellow’ alert to a ‘red’ warning for the day.

Early morning visuals showed rain steadily falling across Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram.

These showers come just days after heavy rains swept through Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and other parts of the National Capital Region earlier this week, causing several flight delays and cancellations on Tuesday.

The IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall at most places, with isolated areas likely to receive moderate to heavy showers over the next two to three hours.

In its 5:55 AM bulletin on Thursday, the department stated, “Updated nowcast map showing spell of moderate to intense rainfall mainly over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, North Madhya Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh during the next three hours.”

For Uttar Pradesh, an orange alert has been issued for several northern districts, including Bareilly, Lakhimpur, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Bahraich, Sitapur, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, and Maharajganj, warning of heavy showers.

Rain or thundershowers expected in most parts of western Uttar Pradesh and some areas in the east on Thursday, with intensity likely to decrease from 15 August. Thunderstorms with lightning may also occur at isolated locations.

Monsoon Activity Intensifies Across India

Monsoon activity has intensified across the country, with the IMD issuing warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall in multiple states.

Meteorologists expect extremely heavy rain at some spots in Uttarakhand, while Himachal Pradesh will likely experience heavy to very heavy showers.

Forecasts indicate that heavy rainfall will also hit certain areas in Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana.

Additionally, the IMD cautioned about thunderstorms or lightning in isolated locations of Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, along with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in Jammu & Kashmir.
