Rajasthan Minister Admits Failures In Water Scheme Implementation

Rajasthan PHED and Ground Water Minister Kanhaiyalal Choudhary admitted that the Rajasthan government failed to effectively implement several major water schemes during the past two-and-a-half years.

The Rajasthan PHED and Ground Water Minister made the remarks while addressing a press conference at the Nagaur Collectorate on Wednesday.

Kanhaiyalal Choudhary stated that the government attempted to improve the system but could not achieve the expected results. He also acknowledged mistakes in handling water-related projects across the state.

The Minister said corruption severely affected the implementation of water schemes and created a perception that the entire system had become compromised. He further revealed that dissatisfaction over the poor execution of projects had also reached the Centre despite extensive planning and expenditure on the schemes.

According to Choudhary, the government will now focus aggressively on correcting shortcomings over the next two years and providing relief to people facing water shortages.

The Minister made the statements during the launch of the ‘Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan-2026’, a statewide initiative dedicated to water conservation, groundwater recharge and environmental protection.

Authorities launched the campaign from Jada Talab in Nagaur. The programme will continue across Rajasthan from May 25 to June 5 and extend to villages throughout the state.

The campaign aims to transform water conservation into a mass movement under the leadership of Bhajan Lal Sharma.

The government has encouraged farmers, women, youth organisations, industries, NGOs and religious groups to actively participate in the initiative.

Officials will also honour individuals, institutions and gram panchayats that have contributed significantly to rainwater harvesting and conservation efforts.

Minister Addresses Nagaur Water Shortage

Speaking about the drinking water shortage in Nagaur, the Minister disclosed that authorities floated tenders three times for installing motors, but contractors did not respond. He added that officials would now issue separate tenders to accelerate the process and improve water supply arrangements in the region.

Political observers believe the Minister’s candid remarks reflect the BJP’s attempt to acknowledge governance challenges while rebuilding public confidence ahead of future elections.
