Chetna, a three-year-old girl from Badiyali ki Dhani in Kiratpur, remains trapped in a 700-ft deep borewell in Rajasthan’s Kotputli.
Despite continuous rescue operations since her fall on 23 December, she has not yet been saved.
The child fell into the borewell around 2 PM on Monday while playing. Initially stuck at 150 feet, rescuers managed to pull her up by 30 feet using makeshift tools.
However, since Tuesday morning, her movements have not been detected, raising concerns about her condition.
After several local techniques failed late Tuesday night, authorities began using a piling machine to dig a parallel tunnel.
Yogesh Meena, leading the NDRF operation, explained the plan, stating, “We will now dig a parallel tunnel, 150 feet long, using the piling machine. Once that’s done, we’ll dig a small tunnel from the new tunnel to the borewell to reach the girl.”
Rescuers aim to dig 160 feet deep to position themselves below the trapped girl, ensuring a safer approach to reach her.
Chetna remains stuck at 120 feet after attempts to pull her up with a J-shaped hook, an indigenous method that failed on Tuesday.
Brijesh Kumar, Kotputli Subdivision Officer assured the public of their nonstop efforts.
He noted, “Our first plan was to extract the girl using various tools. When that failed, we moved to plan B — digging a pit using the piling machine.”
Meanwhile, Chetna’s grandfather, Harshaya Chaudhary, criticized the administration for delays.
“The administration kept saying they were removing soil, but after 28 hours, they decided to use a machine to dig. This is negligence,” he remarked.
