Rajasthan Election poll LIVE
In the first two hours of voting in Rajasthan, almost 10% of voters cast ballots. “The state’s voting percentage as of 9 a.m. is 9.77,” an election department official stated.
Out of the 19 constituencies in the Jaipur district, the Kotputli assembly constituency had the highest voter turnout, with 12.04% of voters casting ballots as of 9 a.m. Voter turnout in the district was 11.78% in Shahpura, 11.28% in Jhotwara, 11.07% in Chaksu, and 11.04% in Virat Nagar.
Voting for a new Assembly’s members in the desert State of Rajasthan started at 7 a.m. following a heated campaign marked by accusations, denials, and bitter discussions.
Defending its citadel, the ruling Congress expects to change the trend of the incumbent government being voted out during the last three decades.
In 199 of the 200 constituencies where voting is taking place, more than 5.25 crore people will decide the fate of 1,862 candidates using electronic voting machines. The death of Congress candidate and current MLA Gurmeet Singh Kooner has caused the election in Karanpur, Sriganganagar, to be postponed.
Six Lok Sabha MPs, one Rajya Sabha member, and 59 MLAs have received tickets from the Opposition BJP, while the Congress has fielded 97 existing MLAs, including seven Independents and one BJP member. The controversy surrounding the BJP’s choice to field Girraj Malinga, a Congress MLA who had defected, stemmed from his suspected involvement in the attack on a Dalit engineer.
Aam Aadmi Party, Bharatiya Tribal Party, Bharat Adivasi Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul are among the other parties running in the election.
