Rain, Thunderstorms, And Winds Forecast As NCR Braces For Weather Shift

The National Capital Region (NCR) is expected to witness another change in weather conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for Monday.

The forecast warns of light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Delhi and neighbouring areas.

IMD officials stated that winds of 30–40 kmph are likely, along with intermittent showers throughout the day.

The maximum temperature is anticipated to be around 32°C, while the minimum is predicted at 24°C.

Despite the rainfall, humidity levels are expected to stay high, which may lead to discomfort and a sticky atmosphere once the showers ease.

This shift in weather is being caused by an active western disturbance impacting northwest India.

Over the next 48 hours, the system is expected to increase cloud cover, bring rainfall, and usher in cooler winds across the region.

In the early hours of Monday, several parts of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram experienced heavy downpours.

The IMD issued an orange alert for Delhi and Gurugram. Noida and Ghaziabad were placed under a yellow alert. This signalled a moderate risk of weather-related disruptions.

On Sunday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1°C. This was slightly below the seasonal average. The minimum temperature was 24.2°C, which is a little above normal.

Air quality in the city briefly improved due to the rainfall and strong winds.

Delhi’s 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) on Saturday was 138 (moderate), compared with 88 (satisfactory) on Friday, which marked the cleanest post-Dussehra day in three years.

This improvement ended a 21-day stretch of moderate air quality, though fluctuations are expected as weather conditions change.

The IMD has urged residents to remain vigilant during thunderstorms, stay away from open areas. They are also advised to secure any loose items that might be displaced by strong winds.
