Railways Responds to Video of Ticketless Passengers Sitting on Floor of Sleeper Coach

Recently, there has been a surge in complaints regarding overcrowding on trains, prompting numerous rail passengers to take to social media to highlight the dire conditions. One incident involved a passenger, X, who shared a video showing ticketless travellers overcrowding the sleeper coach of the Suhaildev Superfast Express. The video depicted a scenario where passengers were sitting on the floor due to lack of space, with the train’s corridor also congested, leaving minimal room for movement.

In the tweet accompanying the video, X expressed frustration over the absence of any ticket inspector on board, lamenting the transformation of the sleeper class into what felt like a general coach, with many passengers travelling without tickets or with general tickets.

Railway Seva, the official customer care account of the Railways, responded to X’s post, urging them to share journey details such as PNR/UTS number and mobile number for swift assistance. They also provided alternative channels for raising concerns, including a dedicated website and helpline number.

The incident sparked outrage among internet users, with many expressing anger and frustration at the all-too-common situation in India’s railway system.

In a separate incident, a passenger named Rachit Jain shared a distressing account of his sister’s ordeal in an air-conditioned 3-tier coach. Jain described a chaotic scene near the coach doors, where overcrowding made it impossible for his sister to board, resulting in her child being tragically separated from her and left behind on the platform.
