Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, is set to resume from Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal on Sunday following a two-day hiatus. Commencing in Manipur on January 14, the Yatra crossed into West Bengal from Assam on Thursday before Gandhi returned to New Delhi for a brief period.
State Congress leader Suvankar Sarkar confirmed Gandhi’s arrival at Bagdogra airport in Siliguri at 11:30 am, where he will then proceed to Jalpaiguri to recommence the Yatra. The journey, combining both bus and foot travel, will pause for the night near Siliguri before continuing towards Islampur in Uttar Dinajpur district on Monday, eventually making its way into Bihar.
The Yatra is slated to re-enter West Bengal on January 31 via Malda, subsequently passing through Murshidabad before exiting the state on February 1. Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress president, has reached out to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, urging her to ensure the smooth execution of the program within the state.
Earlier, the Congress had reported incidents of vandalism against banners featuring Gandhi in Jalpaiguri. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, state Congress president, expressed concerns about encountering obstacles in obtaining permission for organizing public meetings as part of the Yatra in West Bengal.
A day before the Yatra enters into West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that her party, the TMC, would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state independently, diverging from the opposition bloc INDIA.
