Rahul Gandhi Raises Alarm Over Gas And LPG Supply Situation In India

Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday warned that India’s energy security could face serious risks if the government does not prepare adequately for emerging global challenges.

Rahul Gandhi argued that flawed foreign policy decisions had contributed to the current situation. He also called for immediate action to safeguard the interests of citizens.

Addressing reporters outside Parliament, Gandhi said he had sought permission to speak in the House about the gas and LPG situation, but he could not raise the issue.

“Normally, there is a procedure that you can ask to talk. I had asked to be allowed to make a statement regarding the gas and LPG situation. This is the start. I wanted to speak about it, but a new procedure seems to have started — first the minister will decide, then I will speak, and after that the minister will respond,” he explained.

Gandhi cautioned that growing uncertainty in the global energy market could create difficulties for India’s fuel supply.

“Basically, the main thing is that the gas is going to be a problem. The petrol is going to be a problem. All fuel will be gonna be a problem. Because essentially, our energy security has been compromised. Flawed foreign policy has created this problem. Now, it doesn’t matter; we have to prepare for it. The government and PM Modi should start preparation; if not, then it will impact the crores of people,” he warned.

Gandhi said he made the remarks as a warning about future challenges, not political criticism. He urged the government to prepare and prevent supply disruptions for citizens.

At the same time, protests against the recent LPG price hike have continued in several regions.

Congress members in Karnataka’s Mandya district organised demonstrations criticising the Union government over the increase in cylinder prices.

On March 7, oil marketing companies raised the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder by Rs 60, while the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder increased by Rs 115.

The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee also announced statewide protests demanding that the Centre withdraw the latest price hike.

Meanwhile, government officials advised citizens to avoid panic buying and hoarding of LPG cylinders. They said rumours circulating on social media had triggered unnecessary panic bookings and urged people not to spread unverified information regarding LPG shortages.
