On the second day of his visit to the landslide-stricken areas of Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, announced that the Congress party will construct 100 homes for those affected by the disaster.
He was accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress candidate for the constituency, as they toured the severely impacted regions.
The visit included stops in Punchirimadom and Mundakayil, as well as various relief camps.
Addressing the situation, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the unprecedented nature of the tragedy. He stated, “Kerala has never witnessed a tragedy in one area as devastating as the one in Wayanad this time. I will raise this issue with both the Union and State Governments, as this tragedy demands a unique and urgent response.”
Rahul Gandhi emphasized that their immediate focus is on rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. He announced that the Congress will build over 100 houses and provide all possible assistance to those in need.
The calamity has claimed 302 lives, with 206 individuals still unaccounted for.
A dedicated rescue team of more than 1,500 personnel is actively searching for the missing in the most affected areas, including Churalpara, Velarimala, Mundakayil, and Punchirimadom.
