Rahul Gandhi Commends Priyanka Gandhi During Lok Sabha Debate

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday drew laughter in the House as he candidly acknowledged that his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, accomplished in five minutes what he has not been able to do in 20 years, adding that he has much to learn from her political approach.

His remarks, blending praise with humour, came during the ongoing debate and briefly lightened the atmosphere in the House.

“My sister achieved in 5 minutes what I couldn’t do in 20 years. Yesterday, I watched her speech and felt proud of her. She made the Home Minister Amit Shah smile,” Rahul Gandhi said, prompting laughter among members.

Rahul Gandhi further added a humorous comparison, stating that both he and the Prime Minister do not have family issues, which again led to peals of laughter across the House.

The remarks followed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s speech a day earlier, where she mounted a strong counter to the government’s defence on three bills under discussion.

In a pointed political remark, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra invoked Chanakya while referring to the Home Minister.

“If Chanakya were alive today, he would have been surprised to see political shrewdness,” she said, gesturing toward Amit Shah, in an apparent comment on the handling of the women’s reservation bill and the messaging around it.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also argued that the strategy merged women’s reservation with delimitation as part of a broader plan to ensure its passage.

Joining the debate on the second day, Rahul Gandhi also praised ‘Nari Shakti’, calling women a driving force in people’s lives and national imagination. He noted that individuals draw influence and lessons from women, including mothers and sisters, and recalled a personal anecdote from his teenage years when his grandmother helped him overcome his fear of darkness and understand life’s truths.
