Rahul Gandhi Begins Three-Day US Visit With Warm Welcome In Dallas

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi commenced his three-day visit to the United States on Sunday, arriving in Dallas, Texas, where he received a warm reception from members of the Indian diaspora and the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC).

Gandhi shared his gratitude on social media, posting pictures of his welcome and commenting, “I am truly delighted by the warm welcome I’ve received in Dallas, Texas, USA, from the Indian Diaspora and members of the Indian Overseas Congress.” He expressed his eagerness to engage in “meaningful discussions and insightful conversations” aimed at strengthening ties between India and the US.

This marks Rahul Gandhi’s first trip to the US since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. During his visit, Gandhi will be in Dallas, Texas, on September 8, and will move to Washington, DC, for September 9-10.

IOC Chief Highlights

Sam Pitroda, IOC chief, highlighted the anticipation surrounding Gandhi’s visit, noting that the Indian diaspora—including NRI residents, technocrats, business leaders, students, and media professionals—are excited to interact with the Congress MP. Pitroda mentioned that organizers planned numerous events to cater to diverse groups, including those interested in Congress-run states and tech hubs such as Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune.

“We look forward to a very successful visit and are eager to welcome Rahul Gandhi to the US,” Pitroda said. He added that people had “bombarded” him with questions about Gandhi’s visit and hoped this announcement would inform interested parties about the trip’s details.

Political observers expect Gandhi’s visit to generate significant media attention and potentially stir controversy back home. Since the 2024 Lok Sabha results, Gandhi has been gaining momentum and support with his public statements on various issues. He won elections in two constituencies—Rae Bareli and Wayanad—but chose to retain Rae Bareli while passing Wayanad to his sister, Priyanka Gandhi.

In June, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) appointed him as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
