Raghunath Temple in Jammu Commences Celebrations for Ram Temple Consecration

A three-day program commenced at the historic Raghunath Temple on Saturday to mark the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The event kicked off with the sacred ‘Sunderkand Path’ this morning, as the Dharmarth Trust extended invitations to the local community to participate in the grand celebrations spanning from January 20 to 22.

M K Ajatshatru Singh, former minister and trustee of J-K Dharmarth Trust, extended the invitation, saying, “On behalf of J-K Dharmarth Trust, we invite the people of Jammu to partake in the grand celebrations.” A grand function is planned for January 21 and 22, featuring recitations of Ramayana, dance, music, and bhajans by various artists. The event will be broadcast live.

Devotees are flocking to the temple to pay obeisance at the numerous shrines in the Raghunath Temple complex and to participate in the Sunderkand Path led by temple priests. The atmosphere is filled with enchanting bhajans, and people are joyfully dancing to kirtans.

Expressing her happiness, a devotee named Sangeet Devi said, “Shri Ram is coming back home in Ayodhya. We are very happy. We are taking part in the celebration at the Raghunath temple for all three days from today to seek the blessings of the Lord.”

The Raghunath Temple, consisting of seven shrines, is one of the largest ancient temple complexes in North India. Built between 1853-1860 by Maharaja Gulab Singh and his son Maharaj Ranbir Singh, the temple has faced terrorist attacks twice. Singh mentioned that 33,000 Devis and Devtas reside at the Raghunath temple, which has 32 shrines outside the complex.

Encouraging those unable to go to Ayodhya, Singh urged them to come to this temple and participate in the celebrations. The ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony will be broadcasted live, and a Rath Yatra is also scheduled as part of the three-day program.

Members of the J-K Dharmarth Trust shared that work on flower decoration and facelift of the temple complex is underway. The celebration is expected to resemble Diwali, with a large number of people joining in the festivities, transforming this historic event into a collective and joyous celebration for all.
