Union Home Minister Amit Shah also remembered those who fought during the Quit India Movement and highlighted the unity it created among Indians.
Shah said Gandhi’s call for ‘Do or Die’ encouraged citizens to confront British rule with courage and determination. He urged people to carry forward the values associated with the August Revolution by placing national interests first, supporting indigenous initiatives and contributing to the goals of an Atmanirbhar Bharat and a Viksit Bharat.

The Quit India Movement began in August 1942 after the All India Congress Committee approved the Quit India resolution in Bombay.
Mahatma Gandhi responded with his historic ‘Do or Die’ appeal, calling on Indians to demand an immediate end to British colonial rule.
The movement soon spread across different parts of the country, with people organising demonstrations, strikes and other forms of resistance.
British authorities responded with widespread arrests and a severe crackdown, but the movement maintained popular pressure for independence.
The Quit India uprising ultimately became one of the most important mass movements in the final years of India’s freedom struggle, strengthening the country’s determination to achieve independence.
