The Public Works Department (PWD) on Monday sealed and double-locked the ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence, after claiming that the keys were not handed over properly. The residence, located in Civil Lines, had been vacated by Kejriwal earlier, but PWD officials alleged that they did not receive the keys as per protocol.
PWD officials said they need access to inspect the house due to ongoing vigilance cases related to its 2020-21 reconstruction costs. A letter from the department claimed that while the keys were initially handed over on October 4, they were later taken back. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) countered that due process had been followed, with a no-dues certificate issued and a vacation report submitted.
The AAP stated that the keys were already handed to Kejriwal’s successor, Chief Minister Atishi, and she is in the process of moving in. Several images of Atishi visiting the residence were shared by the party. Meanwhile, the BJP accused AAP of trying to hide the contents of the house, a claim that AAP dismissed as a conspiracy.
PWD officials confirmed they are still awaiting the official allotment letter for the property.
