Historic Milestone: India Achieves Lunar Success with Chandrayaan-3 Landing. On August 23rd at 6:04 pm, ISRO’s groundbreaking efforts propelled India to the forefront of a select group of nations that have conquered the lunar mission. By successfully landing Chandrayaan-3 at the Moon’s South Pole, India claims the distinction of being the first country to achieve this feat and the fourth to reach the Moon overall. This remarkable achievement owes credit to the collective efforts of ISRO’s dedicated scientists, including two young talents hailing from Purvanchal.

Kamlesh Sharma, hailing from the village of Revatipur in Ghazipur district, and Alok Pandey from Mirzapur district have made their mark as integral members of the Chandrayaan-3 mission team. The successful lunar landing has ignited a festive fervor in their respective villages, filling both scientists with immense pride. Alok Pandey, specifically entrusted with the responsibility of establishing contact through signals during the moon’s soft landing, was supported by a day-long stream of worship and prayers at his home.

Alok Pandey’s role centered around landing communication, and his family, including his parents, engaged in devoted worship, seeking blessings from Maa Vindhyavasini for a triumphant landing. As the evening witnessed the soft landing accomplishment, the entire village united in joyous celebration. Alok’s parents, moved to tears, emotionally conveyed their pride, affirming the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. As a senior scientist at ISRO, Alok played a vital role in managing the landing communication aspect of the Chandrayaan-3 endeavor.

Kamlesh Sharma’s Pivotal Role Across Multiple Missions

In the village of Revatipur, a similar scene unfolded as in Kamlesh Sharma’s hometown. The villagers of Revatipur had been fervently praying for the mission’s success since Wednesday morning, conducting havan rituals at temples and seeking divine blessings for a triumphant landing. Kamlesh Sharma, an integral member of the Chandrayaan-3 mission team, has consistently demonstrated his dedication to space exploration. Notably, he served as the Chief Controller in the 2014 Mangalyaan mission, showcasing his vital contribution. Additionally, in 2019, he continued his journey in the realm of space exploration by participating in the Chandrayaan-2 mission.

Academic Journey Rooted in Lucknow University

Born on September 15, 1986, Kamlesh Sharma’s educational path began in his village. Following his intermediate examination success in Ghazipur, he pursued higher studies in Lucknow. Attending Lucknow University, Kamlesh achieved both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Mathematics. His exceptional dedication and prowess were evident in 2008 when he secured a remarkable feat by earning 10 gold medals for achieving the highest marks in the history of Lucknow University during his Master’s program. During this time, Kamlesh Sharma also excelled in the NET and GATE exams, further highlighting his academic excellence.

ISRO Entry in 2010: A Unique Path into Space Science

In 2010, Kamlesh Sharma embarked on his journey with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), following his success in a specialized Mathematics Expert examination conducted by the organization. This distinctive examination garnered participants from all corners of the country, ultimately selecting a group of 12 individuals, including Kamlesh. His early association with ISRO was marked by his participation in various significant space projects preceding the Chandrayaan mission.

Kamlesh Sharma’s contributions extend to an array of projects, encompassing the triumphant launch of the Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan), along with endeavors such as Cartosat-1, Oceansat-2, Hamsat, Cartosat-2A, and the India-France Joint Venture Satellite. Notably, his role also encompassed the Megha Tropic-1 Satellite project.
